The score's other major idea is a contrapuntually intricate line that takes shape in low reeds and pizzicato for Walker's Batman theme in brass. The same melody, performed at a slower tempo and arranged for strings, emphasizes the plight of Gotham's homeless and downtrodden citizens. Walker's twangy theme for "The Forgotten" embraces the southern colors of steel guitar and harmonica (the latter performed by the great Tommy Morgan, who had worked with Walker since 1979's "The Black Stallion) and frequently plays like a throwback to the action shows of decades past.
